A1 – Fire brigade Homberg

The 12 km long hike leads us through several challenging ascending legs, and takes about 3 hours. The landscape is shaped by the loess terraces around Mettmann which belong to the main geological unit of the lowlands of Bergisch-Sauerland. The landscape is non-wooded, uneven and contains a mighty, fertile countryside. We start from Homberg, walk through the valleys of Schwarzbach and Angerbach. Hiking through the Homberger Bach valley, we arrive in Homberg again, where the hike ends.

A2 – In the meadow

This hike leads us through various landscapes. We start from the hikers' parking lot "Auf der Aue" (marked "Standort 1" on the map). In around 2 hours, we surmount a height of around 140 metres along 7 km. The natural environment boasts various types of forests, hilly terrain and many creeks.

A3 – Junkernbusch

A small hike of 3.4 km is signposted around Junkernbusch, which will take about 1 hour to complete. Starting at the moated castle "Haus zum Haus" (marked "Standort 2" on the map), hikers pass the meadows of the Anger brook, the keep-fit-trail and the Youth Hostel Ratingen.

A4 – Youth Hostel

This is a hike through the Junkernbusch forest with slight slope, starting from the Youth Hostel Ratingen (marked "Standort 1" on the map). We move through the nature reserve "Ratinger Stadtwald Süd-West", which is part of the largest woodland of the district of Mettmann.

A5 – An den Hanten

On this relatively flat and short trail (about 4.5 km), you walk through the forests around the Hülsenberg. The trail takes around 1-1.5 hours. Starting from the hikers' parking lot "An den Hanten" (marked "Standort 1" on the map), you walk through the nature reserve "Ratinger Stadtwald Süd-West", which is characterised by a variety of forest types, numerous creeks, and hilly terrain.

A6 – Am Sondert

Following the marking "A 6", you hike on a relatively flat trail of 6 km for about 2 hours. Starting at the hikers' parking lot "Am Sondert" (marked "Standort 2" on the map), you walk through the rolling hills between Dickelsbach and Steinsiepenbach.

A7 – Train Station Hösel

Starting from the S-Bahn station Hösel, the 7.5 km hike climbs and descends around 100 m and takes about 2 hours. You walk through the nature reserve "Ratinger Stadtwald Nord-Ost", which is characterised by multifaceted woodlands and open agricultural fields, and which extends to the steep slope of the Ruhr river valley.

A8 – Am Trockenen Stiefel

This hike leads you 7.2 km through forests, and starts at the hikers' parking lot "Am Trockenen Stiefel" (meaning literally "at the dry boot"). Schedule 2 hours for walking the trail. The name probably stems from earlier ages, when it was possible to pass this region dry-shod, while the near surroundings are wet due to many meandering creeks and the source of the Hinkenforst trench.

A9 – Steinkothen

The hike starts at the hikers' parking lot "Steinkothen" in the Anger valley (Angertal), leading to Homberg and back with a total length of ca. 10 km, The trail takes around 3 hours. You climb and descend a height of about 260 metres and pass the highest point of Ratingen at 179.70 m. The Anger creek (Angerbach) has its source in subterranean tributaries to the town pond of Wülfrath and flows into the Rhine through a wide, curved valley in the south of Duisburg after 36 km.

A10 – Grüner See (Green lake)

In order to explore the Leisure Park Volkardey in Ratingen, you best follow the circular walk with the sign "A 10, Grüner See". Schedule about 1 hour for the relatively flat 4.5 km. The Leisure Park Volkardey was established between the years 1976 and 1997, and offers a multitude of possibilities for leisure and recreation.
