The Monchronik Route is a themed circular walking tour through Monheim am Rhein, inviting visitors to discover the city's eventful history in a variety of ways. The route connects four of the eight locations of the decentralized Monchronik city museum: these include the Schelmenturm (Rogue's Tower), Hilla's Reading Shed, Marienburg Castle with its beautiful Marienburg Park, and St. Gereon's Church.
The route leads through the historic old town and modern parts of the city, with charming cafés and diverse restaurants in the old town and Monheim Mitte districts inviting you to take a break, perfect for a culinary treat. With distances usually less than 500 meters between stops, the route is also particularly family-friendly and ideal for leisurely strolls.
Those who wish can extend the tour with a detour to the three other Monchronik sites: the Marienkapelle (St. Mary's Chapel) and the Aalfischerei-Museum (Eel Fishing Museum) directly on the Rhine, or the Roman fort Haus Bürgel in the idyllic Urdenbacher Kämpe. These are a bit further away, but easily reachable on foot. Alternatively, you can use a bicycle, car, or public transport.
A walk along the Monchronik sites is possible at any time. However, please note the individual opening times for visits. With the exception of the Roman Museum at Haus Bürgel, all sites are free of charge.
