The Baumberger Discovery Loop begins at the car park on Klappertorstraße, where the listed Aalschokker "Fiat Voluntas" has been lovingly restored and is elevated on the banks of the Rhine. Since the summer of 2019, there has been an eel fishing museum on board, which vividly tells the story of eel fishing on the Rhine. The discovery loop takes you along the banks of the Rhine and through the lush meadows of the Rhine foothills in the direction of Baumberger Dorfplatz. The town's landmark, the Catholic Church of St. Dionysius, awaits you there.
Via the tranquil main street you finally reach the Urdenbacher Kämpe and the edge of the old Rhine bed, where many water birds have their habitat. Along old pollarded willows, whose caves provide shelter for the rare little owl, we go to the Garather Mühlenbach. There you will meet the neanderland STEIG, which takes you to the former Roman fort Haus Bürgel. This historic site is well worth seeing and is now home to a Roman museum, a biological station and a cold-blooded horse breeding facility. You return to Klappertorstrasse through the forest in the Baumberger Aue nature reserve.
