Wülfrath time tunnel

museum/exhibition
In the 160 meter long access tunnel, 400 million years of geological history and the history of the lime industry in Wülfrath can be experienced with all your senses.
The Wülfrath time tunnel was created in the old mining tunnel of the Bochumer Bruch limestone quarry. Visitors discover the experience-oriented exhibition in an extraordinary atmosphere. In the form of hands-on stations and film excerpts, the different geological eras are illustrated with their unique characteristics and living creatures - from the shifting of the continents to the dinosaurs and the first humans. Many fossils and objects from these times can even be admired live and in color. In addition to the history of the earth, the comparatively short period of time in the industrial history of Wülfrather lime mining is also made tangible. A new highlight in the time tunnel is the virtual reality tour through the 80m long protective bunker. During the tour, visitors use 3D glasses to experience a photorealistic walkthrough of the tunnel and the shelter in 1942. The natural history and industrial history trail can also be used to walk around the Schlupkothen quarry with spectacular views.
