• Church
Of the parish church, which dates back to the 12th century and stands on the edge of the old town, only the church tower now bears witness to its medieval past. Completely destroyed in a bombing raid in 1945, the church was rebuilt after the war and finally reconsecrated in 1953.

Today, St. Gereon is not only a church but also a memorial. In the former baptistery, one side of which is entirely made of stained-glass windows, a permanent exhibition will soon be dedicated to the former parish priest, Franz Boehm. He preached at St. Gereon from 1938 to 1944 as a resistance fighter against National Socialism and died a martyr in the Dachau concentration camp in 1945.

The exhibition will be open to visitors every day – except during church service times.

Outside the church is the Franz Böhm Monument, a work of art created by Thomas Kesseler and an impressive memorial that invites visitors to pause and reflect on Monheim's courageous pastor during the dark years of Nazi rule.
