Pit 7 and former sewage pond – nature and hiking experience in Haan-Gruiten
Pit 7 in Haan-Gruiten is a former limestone quarry that developed into an important nature reserve after it was closed down. Originally used for limestone mining from 1899 to 1966, the site has since been transformed into a species-rich habitat. Today, the approximately 60-hectare area is known for its impressive geology and diverse flora and fauna. A marked circular path leads visitors along the former quarry edges and offers impressive insights into the renaturalized landscape. The neighboring former sewage pond is now wooded and serves as another refuge for numerous animal species. The care and preservation of the area is supported by the Haan Nature and Environment Working Group (AGNU), which regularly carries out measures to promote biodiversity.
