As early as 1838, West Germany's first railway ran from Düsseldorf to Erkrath. One of the old engine sheds along the route has been preserved to this day and has served as the location for the museum since 1999. The exhibition focuses on numerous exhibits relating to the route and the construction of the first railway in West Germany, such as B. historical vehicles, an old ticket issue or operable signals.
In addition, the locomotive shed regularly serves as a nostalgic meeting place for various events such as art exhibitions, jazz concerts or Christmas markets. The museum is supplemented by the gourmet restaurant "Hopmanns Olive" with a beer garden, a children's playground and an outdoor area with a vehicle exhibition.

The museum is located in the immediate vicinity of the Hochdahl S-Bahn station on S-Bahn line 8 (Mönchengladbach - Hagen). Accessible after a 300 m walk.
By car via the Hilden A 3/A 46 motorway junction, Hilden exit, towards Erkrath/Mettmann via Bergische Allee/Schimmelbuschstraße/Hildener Straße at the end of Ziegeleiweg, house number 1-3, directly at the railway tracks.
Take the bus directly to the Hochdahl S-Bahn station. There is a bus stop there.
