In Monheim am Rhein, the church bells are as much a Christmas Eve ritual as the gift-giving and Santa Claus. Hundreds gather in the old town on the afternoon of December 24th, when the Protestant church's brass band sets the tone for Christmas with contemplative and joyful songs, lighting up the eyes of those present.
Since 1982, the tower blowing has offered a moment of reflection, ever since it was initiated by music school teacher Rüdiger Boettcher. While tower blowing originally had a Christian character, it has now become interdenominational in Monheim am Rhein, and all are welcome.
The festive brass sounds will be heard around the Schelmenturm (Schelmen Tower) in the old town from 17 p.m. to 18 p.m. So that even those who are less familiar with the lyrics can sing along to all the verses, lyrics will be available for everyone to sing along to.
Free mulled wine and children's punch will be served during the event. To reduce our environmental impact, we ask visitors to bring their own drinking cups.
