Few topics currently divide society as much as migration. Yet it has accompanied us all since the beginning of human history. This is precisely what the special exhibition "Two Million Years of Migration" at the Neanderthal Museum in Mettmann demonstrates.
Based on current scientific findings, we examine four major prehistoric migrations: the origins of humankind in Africa, the routes of Homo erectus and Homo sapiens, the encounter between Anatolian farmers and European hunter-gatherers 7.500 years ago, and the genetic traces of Eurasian steppe nomads that continue to have an impact in Europe today. An interactive journey that reveals how profoundly mobility has shaped, and continues to shape, our history.
The exhibition invites us not only to trace global mobility historically, but also to reflect on our own origins and discover how closely it is intertwined with migration.
