Saturdays at the Museum: Robot Wooden Block – From Abstraction to Humanization with Helen Homburg

Small robots are part of the technological progress of recent decades. In this workshop, participants build their own small robots out of wood. During the creation of these wooden robot blocks, the theme of humanity is explored. What aspects are necessary to create humanoid characteristics in a robot? How far can these traits be abstracted before the human element is lost? This theme is illustrated by examining numerous wooden sculptures of Saint Barbara, which play an important role in the Upper Silesian State Museum, not only in the permanent exhibition but also in the accompanying program on religion, customs, and mining. Workshop leader Helen Homburg actively supports participants in developing their designs. She also provides practical tips on using the tools and helps them select the appropriate accessories.
Helen Homburg is a freelance artist with degrees in design technology and design engineering. She is a self-taught woodworking and wood processing skills. She also conducts workshops for various age groups.
