One city, many stories – Velbert and the municipal reorganization in 1975

exhibition
On 1 January 1975, the independent towns of Velbert, Neviges and Langenberg became the new town of Velbert.

In the special exhibition “One City, Many Stories – Velbert and the Municipal Reorganization in 1975,” the German Castle and Fittings Museum, together with the Bergisches Geschichtsverein, Velbert-Hardenberg Department, sheds light on this turbulent chapter in the city’s history.

Numerous original documents, private photographs, and personal stories provide a unique insight into the events of 50 years ago. It reveals that the merger of the three cities was far more than a bureaucratic act. It changed the lives of many people – countless leaflets, letters to the editor, and protests testify to the profound impact these changes had on everyday life.

Immerse yourself in fifty years of city history, take a look back – and look forward with us.
