About us

A region to experience

Some regions have always been experienced as a unit, especially by visitors, long before it was made official. So does that neanderland. As part of a funding project in 2013, the 10 cities of Erkrath, Haan, Heiligenhaus, Hilden, Langenfeld, Mettmann, Monheim am Rhein, Ratingen, Velbert and Wülfrath joined together as “neanderland“ together to market their tourist offer together: a region to relax, discover and experience, whose wonderful landscape invites you to go for extensive hiking and cycling in well-developed network of paths. And a region with numerous attractions and activities on offer. Since then, many regional projects have been successfully carried out under the brand “neanderland“realized – a region made for you.

The district of Mettmann

Leisure and tourism destination

The district of Mettmann has existed since the municipal reorganization was completed in 1975/1976. Due to its excellent location, surrounded by many large cities, the district is often referred to as the "center in the middle of the centers". Nevertheless, it is also considered a "green lung" because more than 70 percent are natural areas. 44 percent alone are designated as nature or landscape protection areas.

With around 485.000 inhabitants on a district area of 407 km², the district of Mettmann is the district with the highest population density in Germany. Diverse jobs, living in a good infrastructure and an extensive and varied range of leisure activities make life here attractive.

projects in neanderland

The neanderland is on the right track. To this end, tourism projects have been continuously developed and implemented for years, which are financed, among other things, from European funds and state subsidies. In addition to regional development, the focus is on expanding the digital infrastructure and marketing.
